I'm seeing Bob Dylan for the first time next month when he comes to my hometown. I mean, I've seen some of his performances online before, and he's not exactly the most fantastic artist live, but he's so fantastic in general that I know I'll have a great time! I'm so glad I snagged the opportunity to see him. . . for all I know I might not get the chance again. Anyone else see Dylan live?

I've not seen him but then again I have an odd relationship with Dylan.
I love many of his songs but nearly always when performed by another artist.
One of my friends is at a complete loss as to how I can't stand Dylan's singing voice most of the time when he considers Neil's voice to be whiney!
I can't even begin to explain to him why Neil's voice is the most emotionally charged you could hear.
Dylan does whine!

Haha, I can actually see both points of view on that one. They both seem kind of whiny at times in their own way (not that I mean that in a negative sense; I think they both have awesome singing styles). But yeah, I can understand how someone could dislike Bob Dylan's voice. . . it's so distinct. Everyone I know either seems to love it or hate it. I personally think it's fantastic.

It sounds great occasionally. "Tangled Up In Blue" being an obvious example.

I came by Dylan fairly recently, but I'm not as a huge a fan as I am of Neil's. He's undoubtedly a genius, and is possibly the best living lyricist in the world, but he's hit and miss for me. The last two albums 'Love & Theft' and 'Modern Times' however, are absolute gems. His voice is shot now though, and that puts a lot of people off, and it always comes as a surprise when you see him live.
I've managed to see Bob 3 times now, and the last show (in London, 2005 I think) he played a cover of The Clash's "London Calling" which blew everyone's minds! He even opened his shows with a cover of Link Wray's "Rumble" who'd died recently (at the time).
"Blood On The Tracks" is a classic break-up album, and is probably my favourite Dylan album.

I've seen Bob about as many times as Neil (15) and have enjoyed every show. Last time I saw him there was a special suprise guest, a local boy, maybe you've heard of him, Eric Clapton.

So I went to the Bob Dylan concert last night, and it was absolutely fantastic! Heh, well maybe I should specify what made it fantastic. It was very surreal to be in the presence of someone I respect so much, and interesting to see the new twists he put on old songs. I can't deny that his singing has become horrifying, and the fact that he was on the keyboards for the whole night was a little strange, but I really respect that he just seems to do whatever he wants regardless of how it sounds or what the audience wants.
In other news, I just found out that Neil Young is coming to my area in December!! I really hope I'm able to get tickets so that I can finally see him live!

This could be a banner year for you. Bob's playing keys cause his hands bother him when he plays guitar. His singing changes year to year. Seems Bob's always re-inventing himself.

Yeah no kidding, I couldn't be luckier! I'm also seeing The Who (well, what's left of them) in the fall.
Oh interesting, I thought Bob was just doing it to screw around with the audience. Too bad that it isn't an entirely voluntary choice.

ive seen bob dylan several times, each time uniquely different, he's been brilliant, so bad that i walked out on the show and everything inbetween. he's one of a kind, if you get him on a good night, he rocks but dont go expecting what you think youre gonna get cos u wont get it, he is like a raincloud, you dont know if youre gonna get drizzle or a fullblown storm

I was 15 when I first saw Dylan in 2001. I went to see him again in 2003, twice in 2007 and 2011. Love his stuff!
